FEE WAIVER SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE AT BUTTE COLLEGE
Butte-Glenn Community College, a fully accredited two-year institution, is located approximately 75 miles north of Sacramento in northern California. Every semester, the International Student Office offers Fee Waiver Scholarships for International Students valued at $1,000 each. These scholarships give students from around the world the opportunity to study at Butte College for a reduced cost.

IUPUI OFFERS INTERNATIONAL AMBASSADOR AWARD AND ELS AWARD
Indiana University-Purdue University Indiapolis (IUPUI) provides many scholarship opportunities for international students. All scholarships require full-time enrollment (12 credit hours or more per semester), and funds provided by these scholarships do not cover intensive English as a Second Language study.
The International Ambassador Award and the ELS Ambassador Award are valued at $3,500 per year and are renewable for up to four years, provided that the student maintains a 3.0 GPA. Recipients must volunteer annually for 15 hours of service at IUPUI events that have an international theme.
To be considered as an International Ambassador, international students must be admitted as beginning freshmen by May 1st for the fall semester and submit one of the following: a minimum iBT TOEFL score of 80, a minimum SAT Critical Reading Score of 450, or an IELTS score of 6.0. The ELS Award is based on successful completion of ELS Language Centers Level 112.

To demonstrate its commitment to international students, the Office of International Studies and Programs at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) awards two scholarships to academically talented students from around the world. UNO Advantage Scholarships allow recipients to pay resident tuition rates, which typically reduces tuition charges by about 65%. Scholarships are worth $6,600 to $8,500 per year and are renewable annually with good academic progress. New International Student Scholarships are worth $6000 per academic year and are not renewable. Partial grants of $3,000 are sometimes awarded for a single semester.
To qualify for consideration, students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, be a prospective UNO undergraduate or graduate student (not currently enrolled), and be a J-1 or F-1 visa applicant or visa holder. Students can apply for these scholarships online or submit a downloadable application via mail.
International students may also qualify for graduate assistantships or department scholarships (open to both undergraduate and graduate students). Check with your specific academic program to ask about additional oppurtunities, eligibility requirements, and application procedures.

The American Society for Microbiology International Fellowship Program encourages international research and training collaborations in the microbiological sciences. These grants award fellowships to promising young investigators in resource limited nations who are within five years of obtaining, or are in the process of obtaining, their Masters, PhD, or other equivalent academic degree, and who are working in any of the microbiology disciplines.
Three total fellowships are available per application round (one each to Asia, Africa, and Latin America/Caribbean). A maximum of $5,000 is provided for the fellow to visit a host scientist abroad and carry out a research project. The award is not intended to provide travel to obtain a degree at the host institution. Fellowships can be anywhere between 6 weeks and 6 months in length.
The application is now available and may be submitted online before October 15, 2011. Applications should be submitted jointly by the prospective fellow and the host. Contact international@asmusa.org if you have any questions.

SUNY DELHI OFFERS NEW CRIMINAL JUSTICE DEGREE
The newly-created Criminal Justice Studies baccalaureate program at State University of New York in Delhi, NY is designed to give students the strong academic foundation needed to pursue a variety of career options in criminal justice. The program will focus on students who seek careers as police officers and investigators, as well as those interested in jobs as corrections/probations officers and in other work within the justice system. Graduates will be prepared to enter directly into employment or graduate study in the areas of criminal justice, public safety, criminal investigation, private security, or political science.
Students may study full- or part-time, and coursework covers topics in administration of justice, corrections, law adjudication, criminology theory, law enforcement, research and analytical methods. The Criminal Justice program is one of several joint Bachelor’s Degree programs offered by SUNY Delhi and Schenectady County Community College, through which students can enroll directly in SUNY Delhi and take classes at various campuses or online.

TULANE RECEIVES $50M FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARS PROGRAM
The Weatherhead Foundation has pledged $50 million to Tulane University to fund scholarships for students with a passion for community service. The new Weatherhead Scholars Program will be the first program of its kind in the country sponsored by a single donor. Its vision is to advance the overall reputation and community engagement impact of the entire Tulane University community.
Participants in the program will receive scholarships and will enroll in a curriculum that is focused on community engagement and transforms classroom knowledge into community action. It is expected that the first Weatherhead Scholars will enroll at Tulane by 2013, but the pledge will be given in incremental payments over a period of time in order to keep Tulane’s community engagement mission thriving for years to come.

GRAND VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES MASTERS IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
Grand Valley State University is the first university in West Michigan to offer Master’s degree program in biomedical engineering, and it is the only program in Michigan to focus on medical device design and development. This program, which is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation and supported by the West Michigan Medical Device Consortium and local companies, will help students match development opportunities with research trends and bring innovative products to market. Students can enroll part-time or full-time.
The program also provides four fellowships that cover all tuition costs and include a two-year stipend. Anyone with an engineering background is invited to apply for the program, although it is shaped for people with training in electrical or mechanical engineering.
